"The Death of a Soldier" by Wallace Stevens
The poem, "Death of a soldier" was very short and concise, but had alot of symbolism and deeper meaning. The poem, uses the falling autumn leaf as the dying soldier. The author also uses architypical symbolism, of the autumn season to represent and show the process of death happening, just as spring is used to represent the rebirth of new life.
The poem also states how quick and sudden death happens--"Death is absolute and without memorial". Just like and how the wind would stop.
The clouds that move along in their direction across the sky are a symbol of the people in that soldiers life, that even after the stop of the wind/death in the end they still have to continue on with life, moving on in their direction.
